Hot on the heels of this weeks new that Kmart will soon begin retailing the 150 buck GenTouch78 tablet, we spotted another device that's also aimed squarely at US consumers - the FlatPad from Flat Computing, an ARM-based Android powered 10.2 incher that smells distinctly shanzhai in origin. Have we seen this one before?
Featuring an unspecified ARM Cortex-A8 SoC at 1GHz (marketed as the same one as the iPad uses - lol), 2GB of flash memory, 256MB of RAM and a 10.2", 1024 x 600 touch screen display, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the FlatPad A10 was actually an reincarnation of the Zenithink ZT-180 Epad that we reviewed earlier this week. But can we prove it?
Further digging about on the Flat Computing site reveals that the webmaster has posted the product images without re-naming them; the above image was snatched bearing the name 'epad_with_hulu-2.jpg'. Mystery solved - it is in fact the Zenithink Epad.
Flat Computing will let you get your grubby tablet obsessed fingers on this baby for USD285 sans shipping. It's encouraging that in a matter of days ShanzaiPads have begun to breakdown the traditional barriers to availability in Western markets. We've predicted this for some time and will gamble further, predicting that this is just the beginning. Whether it's e-commerce players like Flat Computing or major retail outlets like Kmart, the Chinese made, Android powered tablets will soon be available to all and sundry.
