9 Steps to Positive Thinking

positive thinking

Step 1 : Control your mind confidently

There is only one way to positive mental attitude: You have to control your mind confidently. Our mind is the greatest miracle in the universe. Everyone has an amazing treasure, brain and nerves. Every normal person basically has the power to reach everything that others can or trying to reach. We have the power to aim the spirit, emotion, instinct, willingness, feelings, mood, attitude and act to a result. It is up to you how to use all this.
To block all negative things, always make an affirmation like this :
”My mind is mine, I will control it!”

Step 2 : Focus your mind to what you really want and get rid what you don’t want

Most of our mind pattern will be replaced by words, but the deepest motivational mind usually in pictures, not words. If an idea appear, it is usually as a picture, not a moving sentence of words in our head. Pictures is the earliest and strongest mind pattern.
So, we have to learn to discipline our mind and visualizes things that we want. Don’t let environment or other people dictate negative image into us.

Step 3 : Apply the Golden Rule

Treat others just as how you want to be treated. On the contrary, do not treat others badly if we does not want to be treated like that. Find goodness inside every person and every situation consistently.

Step 4 : Get rid of all negative thoughts through self inspection

Most people does not realize that they are having negative thoughts unless they are consciously try to inspect their own mind, act and reaction. Just ask ourselves. ”Is this positive or negative?”. When we fail to conquer our mind, our reaction will tend to be negative.
The more we train to use positive mental attitude, the faster we realize the emerge of negative thoughts.

Step 5 : Be happy! Make others happy!

To feel happy, act like a happy person! To be spiritful, we have to act spiritful.
In the end, you will experience the happy feelings and spirit that will show themselves without you having to focus on them.

Step 6 : Make a habit of tolerance

Be open minded with others. Try to like and accept others the way they are instead of demanding or hoping they can be like what we want. Find kindness in other people and learn to love others. Next is a quote from Napoleon Hill : ”How long, oh dear God, we puny creatures will realize our stupidity trying to destroy others for religion and race difference?”

Step 7 : Give a positive suggestion to ourselves

Suggestion is a certain stimulant sent to brain through five senses : sight, hearing, feeling, touch and smell. All of them are the paths that are used by external elements to affect our lifes every day. As long as we can control this process, try so what comes through your five senses is something useful and something that can bring happiness. Just take the beautiful things.

Step 8 : Use the power of prayers

When you pray, believe in anything you ask. In every storm, your soul will get a protection from a prayer.

Step 9 : Decide your targets

To decide your target is one way to keep our mind focused to what we want, and away from what we don’t want.

12 Laws of Life

12 Laws of Life

These are non-negotiable and there are no escape clauses. No excuses are accepted.

Ignore them at your own risk.

I got this information over decades of living, but many people never learn these rules at

all. And so they live in “quiet desperation.” You don’t have to settle for that. If you

consider these Facts and test them against your experience (NOT your conditioning!), I

predict you’ll adopt them, and you’ll be on your way to a life of freedom and

accomplishment.

********************************

1.     SELF-MANAGEMENT AND PEOPLE SKILLS ARE THE KEYS TO YOUR SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS.

This is a MAJOR fact of life. And it took me a long time to get
this. If you want to be smarter than me you’ll give this first
principle serious consideration.  Your skill level in these two areas
will determine the quality of your whole life. Every champion and high
achiever knows this. These simple skills are the clear difference
between winners in life, and losers.

If you learn to manage yourself you can accomplish anything you can
dream up. You can deal with negative experiences wisely and you can add
skills as you need them. You can become unstoppable. Self management
puts you on the launching pad to all the success you desire.

Most people limit themselves by their unwillingness to consider
personal change. They won’t learn new things and they won’t change
their behaviors even when they discover they’ve been wrong.

The funny thing is, self-change is EASY. You are the one person that
you can get to anytime you want. You don’t need permission or an
appointment, and no one can stop you from learning and changing
whenever you decide to. The only obstacle is you!  Self-management is
actually the first step to building people skills.  Once you commit to
changing yourself into who you can be, you will notice the people
around you in a different way. Now you see them as fellow beings with
their own fears and drives. And they will see you with new respect and
attractiveness.  You are surrounded by people who can help or harm you,
based on how you treat them.  Learning how people work is a skill, just
like learning how you work. These people can multiply your efforts and
supercharge your success It takes leadership and persuasion skills -
people skills.  People skills are like a booster rocket propelling you
to your dreams. And the process of succeeding with others can be
learned just like you learn to make toast. If you follow directions and
practice, you can develop the skills that will make you very happy and
prosperous.

2.     YOU ARE AT THE CENTER OF YOUR UNIVERSE. STAY THERE!

As a young sailor I learned the hard way that when I was in a
foreign port I needed to take my corners wide and keep my hands out of
my pockets. In other words, I had to stay balanced, alert and ready to
react to surprises. I’ve found that a lot of life’s situations are like
“foreign ports.” They range from the bedroom to the boardroom, and you
will encounter them throughout your life.

Keep your balance. Stay centered. Expect surprises.

Being centered has two sides; inner and outer.

Begin within.

Inner centeredness comes first; look there for your best self. It is
how you will find peace of mind. There is a place in you that’s
connected to something beyond you.  Spending time there will keep your
mind clear and your spirit refreshed. That “doorway” is your center.

Until you’re connected to your core you won’t be very good at
handling the rest of the world. Few people really get this. It is the
single most important and least understood fact of life Your center is
easy to find. Every spiritual tradition in history teaches prayer and
meditation - it’s the most important thing you can do for the quality
of your life. Just take a little break a couple of times a day, and
learn to be still and RELAX.  If you give yourself this little time
each day you will become calmer, stronger and your physical and mental
health will improve. You will begin to focus more on what you think of
yourself than what others may think of you.

For outer centeredness, you need to gain awareness of your personal
boundaries. This is critical. Pay close attention to where you stop and
others start.  Protect your personal prerogatives and respect those of
others. Allowing others to invade your boundaries will destroy your
personal freedom and subject you to their tyranny.

If you cross the boundaries of others you become codependent with
them, caring more about how they live their lives than how you live
yours. You can care about others without having to run their lives. Let
them go and feel the relief, once you get used to living only your own
life.

3.     WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MOST IS WHAT YOU GET.

There is a Law of Attraction in human nature. What is in your mind
is reflected “out there,” in what you experience as your reality.

Afraid? Then all the goblins that you fear will be attracted to you.
The only useful purpose of fear is to remind you to plan. Plan so that
you protect yourself from harm, but don’t become timid. If you play it
TOO safe you’ll freeze in place and trade your life away for nothing.

Angry? Then you’ll get a lot of angry people to tussle with. Your
life will fill up with honking horns and people pushing you around, and
you’ll spend all your time pushing back.

It’s a good idea to choose your habitual thought patterns
carefully.  Love, optimism and gratitude are good choices. These states
of mind inspire you to explore, to create, to grow and to give. People
and opportunities will become attracted to you. And the goblins and
angry people will get smaller and less important, and finally they’ll
fade and go away.

The point of choice comes up when you have to deal with a
challenging situation. Do you call it a “bad break” - some S.O.B. was
out to get you? Or was it just something that happened, leaving it up
to you to interpret in the most nourishing way?  You might as well be
positive. Bottom line - it works better. It makes you easier to be
around and more creative and good-natured. And your immune system will
be strengthened.

Events are just events until our thoughts and reactions turn them
into experience. What the experience means, how useful it might be,
those are the choices that we make -they’re the stories we tell
ourselves about our lives.

We’re taught that it’s not ‘reasonable’ to expect to win all the
time. Nonsense! That kind of thinking numbs ambition and smothers
greatness. Even worse it leads to reasonable excuses. Excuses don’t
accomplish anything so do NOT be reasonable.  Actually, achieving the
impossible is quite normal - you’ve done it thousands of times.
EVERYTHING you do now was impossible for you before you did it the
first time, from feeding yourself to balancing your checkbook.

Try this for a week. Focus on what you want instead of what you
don’t want. Practice the skills of optimism, gratitude, generosity and
forgiveness and your life will expand.

Yes, that’s right. PRACTICE.

Good attitudes are skills that you develop through repetition, just
like swimming or math. And skills become second nature through
practice. You will become stronger and more relaxed when you decide
that you might as well thrive.  Your commitment to expectancy is
another skill, and it’s decisive and magnetic. It attracts luck and
creates focus. People and opportunities will be drawn to you. Life
starts to get easier. And more fun.

Go ahead and test it. What have you got to lose? The only way you can fail at anything is to quit trying!

4.     YOU MAKE YOUR HABITS AND THEN YOUR HABITS MAKE YOU.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “As you sow, so shall you reap.”
It means that our lives are created by what we do, not by what we
intend. It means that we can harvest only what we plant. And every day
you’re planting something, so choose wisely.

The biggest and most important influences in your life are created
by small daily acts.  For example - Meditate, Study, Set Goals, Save
Money, Exercise, Floss, Smile, and Say Thank You.

When you do the right thing at the right time it makes more
difference than if you make a big dramatic effort too late. Cramming
may work in school, but not in real life. The school term is over in a
few months; life lasts longer. Days turn into years and those years
become your life.

The most important qualities in life - Spirituality, Health,
Relationships, Wealth, and Your Personal Character - are developed by
regular acts done on a daily basis. They’re called “practices.”

Daily practices - done on schedule. What? Just “can’t do anything on
a schedule?” Baloney. You can do anything you want on a schedule,
unless you’ve never gotten to a plane on time. It’s a matter of
priorities. And your priorities create your quality of life.  Choose
the practices of your life as if you were a farmer. You can’t skip
spring planting if you want a fall harvest. Master this principle and
you will live your life to its fullest.  Changing your life doesn’t
take a lot of work - just repeat a single positive act daily for three
weeks and it will become a habit. Good. Now add another one. Then
another one.  The force of good habits will automatically generate
power and “good luck,” and your life will blossom.

5.     GUILT ENSLAVES YOU. RESPONSIBILITY LIBERATES YOU.

Here’s a secret about “Original sin”. It’s guilt, and you get it from your parents.

Are you self-conscious? Most people are. They’re worried that
they’re “unzipped.” They’re walking around thinking that people will
notice their missing button, their bad hairdo, their poor credit and
personal shortcomings.  These feelings are universal - we all got them
while we were being taught how to behave as infants (”No!” “Bad!”
“Don’t!”).

When we become adults we are supposed to leave these feelings of inadequacy in childhood where they were needed.

The way to do this is to forgive your parents for their
shortcomings, whether they were minor or major. And then forgive
yourself for all your sins, real and imagined.  Forgiving doesn’t mean
that you think what happened was okay. It just means that you free
yourself from the work of remembering it and getting mad at people that
are not even around anymore. Including the younger “you.” You MUST do
this if you want to be free.

6.     “OBLIGATIONS” ARE A FRAUD.

Okay, take a deep breath here. This one gets a lot of people,
because most of us have been brainwashed all of our lives to believe a
huge lie. We’ve all been taught that we “owe” other people all sorts of
obligations, and that we should expect lots of things from them in
return.

That idea, in one word, is bullshit.

We waste an incredible amount of time either doing things we don’t
want and don’t have to do, or feeling guilty because we didn’t do
something we “should” have done. We also waste a lot of time and
emotion being disappointed when we don’t get what we expect from others.

Freedom lies in the other direction.

The truth is, you don’t owe anyone anything and they don’t owe
anything to you. This is all part of the “guilt” thing. It’s good for
us to give to others, but ONLY when and how we choose.

The difference between free people who master their lives and those who are slaves is easy to spot.

Who sets their priorities?

Free people set their own priorities, while “slaves” allow them to be set by outsiders.

Your life belongs to you and you alone - and not anyone else.  Want
a formula for unhappiness? Make your welfare dependent upon someone
else’s choices. Do you need “support” from those you love? Or approval
from a parent or friend? Or permission from anybody to pursue your own
path?

That’s not living - that’s slavery!

Don’t look to anyone else for your success or happiness. That’s your
job and yours alone. You must tend to your own welfare. No one else
will, nor should they.

7.     EXPECT LESS FROM OTHERS AND MORE FROM YOURSELF.

Most people expect way too much from others while they themselves
actually get very little done. Inertia and distraction are insidious
and damn near universal - expect it in others but guard against it in
your own behavior.

Everyone listens to his or her favorite mental radio station -
W.I.I.F.M., which stands for, “What’s In It For Me?” So don’t take it
personally when you’re overlooked, your call goes un-returned, and you
go un-thanked.

Most of your fellow humans are so distracted and disorganized that
they only get around to the most essential, familiar or urgent things
in their lives. They’re on “autopilot” most of the time - aren’t we all
on occasion?

This self-interest is natural and healthy. Use this knowledge of other’s desires in your plans and proposals.

Here’s the big principle. If you want something to happen, take
control and do it yourself. Don’t get bitter if perhaps someone else
didn’t keep a commitment to help you.

It is a waste of time to criticize others, and a bigger waste to pay
attention to anyone’s criticism of you. Just know that you can get
better at doing things on your own. It’s a LOT easier than trying to
get someone else to change.

8.     NOBODY WAKES UP IN THE MORNING CHOOSING TO BE THE VILLAIN.

Everyone alive thinks that they’re the “good guy.” He or she is the
hero in their version of the story. They have a reason for what they do
- even if it’s impractical or unworkable or has evil consequences.

People who are troublesome aren’t worth changing. Don’t even waste time complaining about them.

If someone hurts you, it’s not about you and you shouldn’t act like
it was. People do what they do because of their own inner reality.
Learn what you can do differently the next time, then forgive them and
move on.

Really. Forgive them completely. And then, figure out how to manage, tolerate or avoid them in the future.

By the way, forgiving doesn’t mean that you think whatever they did
is okay. It’s NOT okay. But here’s the thing - if you don’t forgive
someone you can’t ever let it go. Then you have to go around with this
burden of anger and sourness.  Wasn’t the original hurt enough for you?
Why would you want to preserve it and remember it? Or them?

Carrying grudges ties up brain cells that you could use to make life
sweeter for yourself and those you love. So, after you forgive them,
forgive yourself for getting hurt - and then LET IT GO!

9.     THERE IS NO “HAPPILY EVER AFTER” IN THE REAL WORLD.

Friends and mates may change or leave, luck comes and goes, and
there are no guarantees. The only certainty is that someday your life
will be over, and only you can decide how it will be lived. If you want
a happy ending you need to create it.  Think about it. When would
“Happily Ever After” start?

After you win the lottery? - Most lottery winners are broke within three years.

When the wedding bells ring? - Over half of all marriages fail.

When you retire? - 95% of those over 65 live from check to check.

Stories have to have happy endings, because the story ends before their characters do.

Real life is different. You’re going to live until you die, so you need to have a plan for every day of it.

Choose your goals, write them down, and track them daily. Your life
will happen by accident unless you have a plan for it. Either way
things will happen to you. On every day of your life, after every
climax, every tragedy and every triumph, the sun will rise again.

You get a new day every morning of your life. And as long as you’re
alive you’ll have to prepare for that next day and the one after that.

So respect reality.

Think as if you have a future, because that’s where you’re going to spend the rest of your life.

10.   THERE IS A HELL, AND IT STARTS EARLY.

People create their own personal hell with moral shortcuts, regrets
about lost opportunities, resentment, and guilt. Then they add jealousy
and envy, and they’ve paid the toll to enter Hell’s suburbs.

What toll do they pay? They give up their peace of mind, and sometimes their self respect.

They trade it for short-term pleasure.

Those who avoid doing anything that requires effort - physical
exercise or forgiving or doing something for someone else - grow more
narrow and less flexible day by day.  Stunted ambition strangles their
dreams and their enthusiasm dies.  By the time they enter “downtown
Hell” they’ve got a bad attitude about most things in life. They
complain and criticize because “life has let them down.” The truth is
life didn’t let them down - they quit trying.

Pretty soon their immune system gets the message and then their
physical afflictions begin - their relationships are desolate and life
becomes an ordeal. They start looking and acting older than they really
are.

When these people look ahead, the future looks just like the past. Stretching on and on, day after unhappy day.

And that is truly Hell.

11.   YOU CAN CREATE PARADISE ON EARTH.  MANY PEOPLE DO.

You can make your life sweeter bit by bit. It doesn’t take much, just some daily practice.

Spend some time in solitude each day renewing your peace of mind.
Invest in good memories by managing your behavior so that you enjoy
looking back on your life.

You create your Heaven by small acts of generosity to others, making them smile and feel better.

You create it by little acts of courage - doing the right thing when no one but you will ever know you did it.

By making promises to yourself and keeping them, which builds your
self-respect.  You create it by telling the truth even if it’s
inconvenient or embarrassing. It makes you careful about what you do,
or what you commit to doing. And that brings credibility and trust. And
most important, you will know you’re liked for who you are instead of
for some lie you’re living.

You’re in Heaven’s neighborhood when you notice the amazing number
of things in life there are to be grateful for, especially as your
gratitude becomes a constant part of your being.

Humans are the most flexible beings on this planet, and you build
Heaven by stretching sometimes to try something new or a little scary.

Your reward is learning that you are more than you thought.

And you can always stretch more.

As you become older your personal Heaven becomes a bigger influence
on those around you. Your life will expand faster than your physical
abilities contract.  You will laugh a lot more than most people, and
enjoy more contentment and peace than you ever thought possible. And it
just keeps getting better and better.  If you choose to follow this
path, you’ll be in Paradise long before you leave this life.

12.   IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE.

Everyone alive gets the same amount of time. 1440 minutes a day. 168
hours in each week. As long as you live. The only difference is in how
you spend those hours.  You decide how to spend your time and you make
that choice each minute.

You can begin to turn your life around in a second.

The only thing you need to do is decide to make it better. You can
start to change immediately, beginning with a simple act and letting
the acts pile up on each other, creating the change almost effortlessly.

You know the scriptural quote, “By their deeds you shall know them?”
It was talking about us. It doesn’t really matter much what we think or
what we intend, until the thought is expressed as action.

The quality of our lives comes from what we actually do.

Experience comes in moments - and the moments will keep coming for
you until they finally stop. Each moment is a gift, and the chance to
make your life different comes to you during each one of them.

Each of these “Facts” boils down to a single principle.

Decide

You can decide how your life will go during any moment you choose. This may be that moment.

It’s okay to dream big. Where do you want to go from here? How do you want your next moments to be? It’s up to you.

How to Be Incredible

Photo Courtesy of Tony the Misfit

“Be Incredible.”

Fantastic advice, but how exactly do you get started? How can you “be incredible?”

Far too many people want to be incredible, but they are often left wondering how to get started. They focus on abstract ideas and advice, but they do not come across specific ways to start being incredible.

I am going to change that. I am going to show you how you can be incredible.

1. Ignore Everyone Else

Warren Buffett became the richest man in the world using a selective contrarian investing style. When other people were running, he was on the front lines swinging the money bat full-force.

Following the herd means you are a part of the herd and they are average. Incredible people focus on themselves and their goals.

2. Become Action Oriented

John C. Maxwell once said, “A pessimist complains about the wind. An optimist expects it to change. A leader adjusts the sails.”

How simple, but effective.

Complaining and waiting is not how you become incredible. Big ideas are meaningless without action. You can’t use a sailboat to get where you want to be if you’re not willing to adjust the sails.

3. Focus On What You Control

As a sales person, how would you rather sell a product to a new customer? Would you prefer to spend 8 hours trying to convince one customer to buy your product or would you rather try to convince 8 customers in 8 hours (1 hour per customer)  to buy your product?

You should always pick the latter because you can’t control one person, but you can control how many people you talk to.

4. Make Your Goal Public

Do you want to know the best way to lose weight? Wake up every morning and weigh yourself. Then, write it down and put it where you and everyone else will see it all day. You will adjust your lifestyle when you can’t escape the truth.

Incredible people are not ashamed of their goals. They are willing to share them with everyone and will not falter in face of criticism.

5. Create An Action Plan

Far too many people want to become millionaires. They want to become financially independent and retire wealthy. However, very few people realize what it takes to become a millionaire. For example, if you are 20 years old and want to become a millionaire by the time you are 30, you need to earn around 273 dollars per day and not spend a penny.

Incredible people keep their goals in mind and have specific action plans to attain these goals.

6. Monitor Your Progress

You developed a great action plan and keep your goal in mind daily, but you need to keep track of how you are doing. If you are are not achieving your daily goals you need to alter your action plan to adjust for your shortfalls.

Incredible people keep track of how they are doing in relation to their goals. They understand the world is changing and they look to change themselves to adapt.

7. Keep Good Company

Isaac Newton once said, “If i have seen further than anyone else, it is because I was standing on the shoulder of giants.” Newton obviously knew the importance of the people around him.

In a quest for value, you don’t want to be a diamond surrounded by coal because you already won. Incredible people surround themselves with incredible people and it pushes them to become more incredible.

8. Ask For Help

Don’t waste your time trying to learn how to write on your own when you know people who are professional writers. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel. You should be humble enough to ask for help, and generous enough to reward your teacher with success.

Incredible people are not scared to seek help because they know it will expedite achieving their goals.

9. Use Fear Constructively

Do you know what drives me to wake up everyday and improve myself? I fear mediocrity. I fear being average and I do everything in my power to avoid it.

Incredible people will not settle for less than incredible.

10. Develop Confidence

The most experienced people often fail at seemingly simple goals, because as Stan Smith, the professional tennis player, once said, “experience tells you what to do; confidence allows you to do it.”

Incredible people have the conviction to carry out their actions and the confidence to make them succeed.

11. Focus On Your Strengths

If you are an excellent writer, you should write. If you are amazing at math, you should do math. Turning a weakness into a strength could take forever, but turning something you’re good at from a 7 to a 10, can be much easier.

Incredible people know how to discover their strengths and how to develop them.

12. Expect Incredible

Steve Jobs created an environment where excellence is expected. He teams with the best designers, the best partners, and hires the best people.  He once was quoted as saying, “Be a yardstick of quality. People are not use to an environment where excellence is expected.”

Incredible people create environments where excellence is expected and anything less is unsatisfactory.

13. Compete With Yourself

Many people find themselves competing with other people, but this is a flawed approach. You may not be built the same way.

Incredible people compete with themselves. Not only is the competition fair, but you always have someone to beat.

14. Choose Incredible Heroes

Heroes are inspiring. Heroes are motivating. Heroes make you strive to become incredible.

When I started earning money on the internet (back in 2006), Darren Rowse was my hero. I read his blog religiously and acted on his advice. I earned six figures in 2007 on the internet because of Darren and I will never forget it.

Incredible people find incredible heroes and it drives them to become successful.

15. Make Incredible Mandatory

A co-worker told me a story of a boss who use to ask his employees, “is this the best you can do” before he read any of their work. It’s passive aggressive, but he made “the best” mandatory. He never settled for someone’s second best work and his employees delivered the best as a result.

Incredible people make incredible mandatory and there are no excuses.

Lets Start Incredible Today

These 15 tips will help you be incredible. However, it is up to you to apply it to your goals. Remember, making the choice to start your journey today is the first step to completing it. As Maria Robinson once said, “nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

Incredible people start as soon as possible. What are you waiting for?

A Guide to Creating Success | 24 Essential Actions You Can Do Beginning Today

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” - Maya Angelou

To create the success you are seeking takes effort and it takes action. What keeps many of us from realizing the lasting success we desire is in not understanding what actions to take; so we don’t take any action. We stay stuck. And we stay unfulfilled and unhappy.

It is important for me to create lasting success in the different areas of my life. I want to take what I have learned and align it with my desire to continue learning. I have recently developed a game plan – a guide, I can use when I feel stuck.

This guide will provide the necessary guidance to help keep me on track and to keep me motivated. You are welcome to use this, too.

This guide offers very tangible and specific ideas, thoughts and strategies. It’s a tool, of sorts, to take the actions needed to accomplish the goals you have set in your personal relationships, as a parent, and to obtain the spiritual, career and financial success you may be searching for right now.

The guide is simple to use. Write these actions in a journal and then record your progress throughout your journey. To change, you must take action. Action begins with making a plan. Consider this guide for creating the lasting success, happiness and balance you deserve.

  1. Decide What You Want. What’s on deck for you this week? Do you want to earn more money? Do you want to squeeze in an extra workout at the gym in order to keep your exercise routine on track? No matter what it is, make a plan for what you want to accomplish each day, week, month or year. Decide what you want make a deliberate attempt to achieve this.
  2. Live on Purpose. Monitor your activities and actions. Step back and make certain your actions complement your life’s purpose. Make a conscious choice, each day, to do the things you love to do and to do the things for which you have a special gift and talent to do.
  3. Remember What You Value. Live by your values. Decide on your five most important values and stick to these. My personal values are: Character, Loyalty, Self-Care, Respect and Fun. Make the difficult decisions you face based on your values.
  4. Think About Your Future. Grab a friend, your wife or husband and ask them to indulge you for a few minutes. Project your life two, five or maybe ten years into the future. Talk about where you want to be; emotionally, spiritually and financially. Your future will feel more real and your dreams are more likely to happen if you articulate them because you give them life by this very acknowledgement.
  5. Write Down Your Goals. When you take the time to write down your goals an amazing things happens – you will accomplish most of them! Writing down your goals not only stores them on a piece of paper; they are also stored in your unconscious mind. Your mind is then constantly trying to find creative ways to meet these goals. As a result, we reach 80% of the goals that are written.
  6. Plan Your Priorities. Remember the sage advice from German philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, “
  7. Ask for Help. Others have walked before you. Others have experienced what you are experiencing. Reach out and ask for help. Too often the fear of asking for help is greater than the fear of failure. Ironically, though, our greatest fear is we just might get the help we need to be successful. Consider yourself worthy of other people’s time and attention. Consider yourself worthy of being successful.
  8. Take Action Every Day. What will you do today, right now, to accomplish a goal? There’s a big difference between deciding to do something and actually doing it. Decide to act.
  9. Ask for Feedback. You don’t have to be perfect. In fact, striving for perfection is a waste of time. Instead, look for continuous improvement opportunities. Ask others how you are doing. Get their opinion and advice. Feedback is not criticism – it’s just an opportunity to learn more about you.
  10. Make Adjustments. Never give up; only re-group and keep adjusting your strategies until you find the right combination for success.
  11. Keep Believing. Believe you are worthy of reaching your goals. Believe you are capable. Keep believing you are more than enough to have your heart’s desire. If you believe your goals are worthwhile; then they are worthwhile. If you believe in yourself and believe your goals will take you to where you want to go in life, then they will.
  12. Don’t Let Go of Fear. Fear failure. Stay scared. Both are great motivators, and reminders. If you fear something enough you will find every possible way to avoid it. Regarding the fear of failure, choose never to fail. Think of setbacks as an opportunity to learn and gain valuable information. Receive the feedback and lessons learned from disappointment and use this information to keep moving forward; past the fear and into the success that awaits.

  1. Take 100% Responsibility. You are the sum of the choices you make. Take comfort in fact you are responsible for your life – no one else! Successful people are the folks who make it happen as opposed to those who keep watching, waiting and hoping. Take full ownership of your life, emotions and the results you achieve. Don’t wish - act.
  2. Take One Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone Each Week. Do one thing you fear most this week. Make that phone call; send the email; have the conversation. Do the uncomfortable until it begins to feel comfortable. The result is growth. The result is success.
  3. Understand the Highs and the Lows. If there’s one thing that has helped me the most, it’s this: Never get too excited over the high highs or too depressed over the low lows. It is the grey that lives in between that determines our success and happiness.
  4. Take Five Golden Minutes Each Day. Every day, either in the quiet of your moon-lit kitchen over your first cup of coffee or late in the evening when you put your head down to rest, take five minutes and review your day. Ask yourself what worked and what didn’t. Ask yourself, and provide an honest answer back, if you took action to move your goals and dreams forward. If you did, then good for you. If not, give yourself grace and forgiveness. It’s not about being perfect; it about being willing to act. Choose to act today.
  5. Consider Yourself the Underdog. Want it more. Be willing to do more than anybody else to achieve what you want to accomplish. Imagine the reigning heavyweight boxing champ is standing in the middle of the ring keeping you from what you want. Be willing to fight as hard as you can to overcome the impossible odds you face. Refuse to back down. Refuse to get knocked down. Refuse to lose.
  6. Be OK with Thinking about Money. It’s OK to think about being rich. It’s OK to want to have money in life. Remember this: Your character is not defined by how much money you have; your character is defined by what you do with the money you have.
  7. Keep Your Sense of Humor. Sometimes a good laugh is the best prescription for a bad day. When you can step back and see the humor in a situation, you are better able to take the pressure off. Humor is also an excellent mood changer.
  8. Think Outside of the Box. Really big things usually start with really big ideas. BHAGs (big hairy audacious goals) have paved the way for more inventions than anything else. Keep your curiosity high and keep asking yourself, “Why not now and why not me?
  9. Don’t Always Take “No” for an Answer. Condition yourself to the point that when you hear “No,” it just means “Not now.” Become unstoppable, unyielding and uncompromising in going for the “Yes.” Do you know when most people quit? Typically, right before they hear the “Yes.”
  10. Show Gratitude. Show daily gratitude. The Universe tends to give us more of what we are do. Therefore, if you are constantly showing gratitude and saying “thank you,” the Universe will show you gratitude in return.
  11. Learn Something New. If you want to continue to develop and grow, you need to keep learning. Too often, we tend to use words that end in “ed.” For example, “I have learned how to…,” or “I have accomplished…” Instead, considering using words that end in “ing.” “I’m still learning to…” or “I’m accomplishing…” “Ing” words convey you are open to new possibilities and new ideas. Life is about achieving. Death is about achieved.
  12. Do Something Extraordinary. Today, right now, make a goal to do something truly extraordinary. Strive to be the best. Don’t just settle for mediocre. Feed your passion, and your purpose, with deliberate actions; not convenient excuses.

Top 10 Cell Phone Etiquette Rules People Still Break

Posted by Dan in Random stuff

Do
we really still need to talk about this? You’d think with over a decade
of experience under our belts along with our inherent delusions of
hyper sophistication that we’d have figured things out by now. But the
sad truth remains: cell-phone douche-baggery is worse than ever! In
terms of maturity levels, many of us rank amongst toddlers,
interrupting anyone and anything with our loud nonsense, our little
fingers obsessively pushing buttons with what’s left of our attention
spans constantly distracted by various bells, whistles, and bright
colors on tiny screens. This ridiculous need to be in touch with all
people at all times is getting out of hand, and while we think we are
staying more connected with each other, we are in fact treating those
closest to us like China treated the Mongols. We’re building giant
walls people! The following are basic cell phone
rules of etiquette which people still can’t seem to follow. In fact,
they should be called “How to use your common sense and remain polite
in a human society.” Read them, learn them, and absorb them into your
system as you would the vitamins from a mango smoothie.

cell-phone-etiquette.jpg

1. Talking too loudly.

“YES! FOR THE LOVE OF BABY JESUS, WE CAN HEAR YOU NOW!” For some
bizarre reason people feel the need to raise their voices while on
their phones. I think we’ve come far enough, technologically speaking,
to trust the phone’s microphone to adequately amplify and carry your
voice. Your mouth couldn’t physically be any closer to the microphone,
so unless you’re talking into it from a Captain Kirk distance or
calling in an airstrike while under heavy machine gun fire, there’s no
need to yell. Hell, even Kirk never raised his voice and he was
communicating with an alcoholic Scotsman on a space ship!

Note: There are attention-seekers out there who speak loudly on
purpose to “show off” recent accomplishments and victories to impress
surrounding strangers. Do not hate on them too much, they were probably
adopted and are cursed to constantly seek approval from anyone within
earshot.

2. Holding inappropriate conversations in public.

No one needs to hear how wasted you were last night, or what color
your boyfriend’s boxers were on the night the two of you, um, “played
Scrabble.” Keep your personal conversations personal. If you don’t want
people to see you crying in line at the bank or while ordering a
stuffed-crust pizza, refrain from having emotional conversations in
public. Offer to call the person back, step outside, or find a quiet
place where you can openly and unabashedly describe your new foot
fungus.

3. Rudely interrupting conversations.

Have you ever felt the only way to maintain a conversation with the
person right in front of you is to give them a call? Ever arrive at the
climax of a hilarious story, only to have the momentum ruined by
“Sorry, I gotta take this”? Why is the disembodied voice of someone
else more important than the flesh and blood standing before you? It’s
very frustrating to stand around waiting while your “friend,” date, or
family member gets into a phone conversation on your time. When this
happens, I recommend simply walking away. Even when you’re sitting in a
restaurant, if your date would rather chat with someone else, then you
should get up and leave immediately to find someone else. Or, as I
mentioned earlier, call them on their other line. “Hey, how’s it going?
How’s your sea bass? Isn’t the wine delicious?” If you can’t beat ‘em,
call ‘em.

4. Checking your phone at the movies.

Movie theatre announcements and people who are quick to “shhhh” have done a decent job of reducing reducing cell phone
rings over the years. But people are still checking their calls and
text messaging rfiends, silently, but equally annoyingly. There’s a
reason why we spend an arm and a leg to watch movies in the theatre.
When the lights go out and the screen lights up, we try to forget our
everyday troubles and we submerse ourselves into whatever the hell
world we bought tickets for. We escape. But when out of the corner of
our eyes we see someone’s entire face light up while they check their
phone messages, we’re yanked right back to reality and are reminded of
how many jerks per square foot there are in the world. Turn your phones
off, have a little consideration for the people around you. The world
won’t stop spinning if you’re unavailable for 2 hours. “But what if
there’s an emergency?” The odds of an actual emergency occurring are
astronomical. Besides, if there was an emergency, it already happened.
You already weren’t there, and chances are the people who could
actually do anything about it, already have.

5. Texting while driving.

textin-while-driving.jpg

Somebody please get the “Darwin Awards” on the phone. Of course, if
you’re driving when you do, make sure you’re on hands free or have
pulled over before you start explaining how there are people who send
texts while behind the wheel of a vehicle. According to a Harvard
University study, cell phones cause
over 200 deaths and half a million injuries each year. And that’s with
eyes on the road! Laws are in place to make sure people aren’t talking
on their phones, and yet people are typing?!?! (I very rarely use the
double question mark with the double exclamation point at the end of
sentences, but this is ridiculous) I would love to see the tombstone:
Was LOL when he WCTTFW (Went crashing through the freaking windshield)
Anyone caught texting while driving should be stripped of their driving
license forever.

6. Texting while talking.

You ever have someone try to listen to your story while text
messaging someone else? You want to give them points for making the
effort as they clumsily insert “oh yeahs” and “un huhs” at all the
wrong moments, cutting you off mid-sentence with a “no way” as they
furiously thumb type in your face, but at the same time you want to
volleyball spike their phone to the ground for being unbelievably rude.
A third option is tell better stories.

7. Texting small talk.

Does our friendship mean nothing? Have we become so lazy and
disinterested in each other’s lives that we’re asking people to sum up
their days with a text? “How r u?” “What’s up?” “What’s new?” These
arbitrary questions are annoying enough when asked in person, but at
least we have the ability to fire back equally insignificant responses
in one second or less. But expecting people to waste their time typing
“not bad, u?” or “same sh*t” or heaven forbid “let me tell you about my
day” is about as lame and pointless as your appendix.

8. Loud and annoying ringtones.

I was riding the bus to work one morning, when out of nowhere the
silence was shattered with screaming. It was the type of scream a frat
boy lets out when a serial killer is in the process of gutting him with
a fountain pen. I just about had a cardiac arrest and many of the
people on the bus jumped out of their seats. It was only when the
repetitive screaming suddenly tripled in volume that we all discovered
the culprit: a cell phone. Some jerk pulled the phone out of his
pocket, embarrassed at how loud it was, and accidentally dropped it on
the bus floor. The joke now on him, the whole bus watched in amusement
as this dude’s face grew redder and redder, scrambling to pick up and
silence the screams coming from his phone. While there are far too many
stupid ringtones
out there to mention here, the story makes the point: turn down your
stupid ringtone! No one thinks you’re clever, or funny, or musically
savvy when you’re little pocket jukebox interrupts their thoughts. That
guy on the bus probably thought his scream-tone was hysterical, but the
looks on everyone else’s face read loud and clear: “What a douche bag!”

9. Disturbing live performances.

Comedy shows, concerts, plays etc…Nothing boils my blood more than
having art ruined by a ringing cell phone. I nearly gave a security
guard a standing ovation when he grabbed a gentleman by the collar and
escorted him out of a Cirque du Soleil show for having his cell phone
go off during a particularly dangerous acrobatic stunt. You ruin
someone’s comedy act or interrupt an actor on stage, in turn spoiling
the experience for everyone around you who’s spent their hard earned
money on a night out, and you’re an arrogant douche-monkey who should
be put in the corner with the rest of the 5 year olds. But when you
disturb a performer who’s very life depends on needle-point focus and
concentration, you should be put in jail.

10. Location location location

There are countless locations where “taking the call” is
inappropriate and extremely annoying to those around you. The first two
off the top of my head as the most frustrating are in libraries, and
fast food restaurant lines. One of the last places on earth, aside from
an empty church or your own bathroom, where people can go to read,
think, and study in silence, is under attack by people who refuse to
disconnect from the outside world. Does the word SSSSHHHHH mean nothing
to you? Take the call outside, before someone throws “War and Peace” or
Stephen King’s “It” at your head.

While ordering food, there’s no need to explain how annoying a phone
call can be for both the restaurant staff and for the customers in line
behind you. Check out how one Subway restaurant dealt with this
problem. Again, if people are going to act like children we need to
treat them like children. Well played Subway, well played.

Ten Rules for Being Human

by Cherie Carter-Scott

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's

yours to keep for the entire period.

2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time

informal school called, "life."

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of

trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much

a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."

4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be

presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you

have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end. There's no part of life that

doesn't contain its lessons. If you're alive, that means there are

still lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better a place than "here." When your "there" has

become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again

look better than "here."

7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate

something about another person unless it reflects to you something you

love or hate about yourself.

8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools

and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice

is yours.

9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life's questions

lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

10. You will forget all this.

Wise words from a wise man

Sage advice from scientist, theorist, and all-around smart guy Mr. Albert Einstein:

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."

"Any
intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more
violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move
in the opposite direction."

"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."

"It
is in fact nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of
instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of
inquiry; for what this delicate little plant needs more than anything,
besides stimulation, is freedom. It is a very grave mistake to think
that the enjoyment of seeing and searching can be promoted by means of
coercion and a sense of duty."

"True art is characterized by an irresistible urge in the creative artist."

"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them."

"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity."

"The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."
